I am a Ph.D. Candidate in Architectural History at the Harvard Graduate School of Design, based in Chicago. 

Situated at the intersection of intellectual, environmental, and architectural history, my research examines how ideas emerge from, depend upon, and shape the way human societies understand and transform the natural world. My dissertation and first book project, titled “Nature and Nation: An Environmental History of Architectural Ideas in the United States, 1840-1940,” explores how the experience of changing environmental conditions shaped American architects’ understanding of national history.

I recently published an article about the Crystal Palace in Architectural Histories, and am preparing another one about nineteenth-century American architects’ political understanding of lichens’ agency on construction stones. I have presented my work at various venues, including the 2025 EAHN Thematic Conference ‘Microhistories of Architecture,’ the 2025 AHRA Annual Conference, and the 2025 Buell Dissertation Colloquium at Columbia University. This Spring, I will co-chair the session “Do Ideas in Art and Architecture Have an Environmental History?” at the College Art Association Annual Conference, and present my paper, “American Architects, Style, and the Timber Famine,” at the same venue and at the Society of Architectural Historians Annual Conference.

In parallel to my research, I have developed and taught lecture courses in architectural history at Wellesley College (“Architecture and Urbanism in North America”) and in architectural theory at the Rhode Island School of Design (“Architecture and the Environment”).

Prior to arriving at Harvard, I was trained as an architect at the ENSA Paris La Villette (Licence, Master’s, Licensure) and worked as a project architect for various firms. I have served as a studio instructor for the Harvard Design Discovery Program, and often participate in the M.Arch. Core and Thesis midterm and final reviews as a guest critic.
